By Brianne Murphy, Esq.
Welcome In Friends, I’m Brianne.
Tonight, I’ve decided to 86 all the reasons why I should not launch this blog and take the leap to drop my first post on Labor Day.
As an employment law attorney who worked my way through college and law school as a restaurant server, I thought it only fitting on the day we celebrate the contributions of American workers and labor activists.
After 25 years in the restaurant industry, I’m thrilled to finally launch “All’s Fair in Love & Side Work,” a blog serving up restaurant industry tips and legal insights. What excites me most is the opportunity to share the knowledge I gained on my journey in restaurants in DC and NY. I’ve seen it all, from the front of house to the courthouse, and I’m ready to chop it up with you while sharing side work tips and stories.
As I built my law practice, I’ve applied what I’ve learned to support industry clients in DC, NY, and Miami. Be it fraternization policies, translating rules governing tip-supporting work, handbooks, or trainings, my experiences in the industry enable me to translate legal policies into operational practices. And that keeps restaurants compliant – allowing my clients more time to focus on what they love.
Whether you’re an owner, operator, chef, server, or just interested in employment law, I’d love for you to visit industrielaw.com to stay updated, connect with me on LinkedIn, and message me with your industry questions at brianne@industrielaw.com.
So, happy Labor Day, and here we go!
Very Truly Yours,
Brianne
P.S. If you’re new to the restaurant industry, look below to learn the lingo.
P.P.S. Except for “Very Truly Yours,” which is how attorneys formally sign letters (and it still makes me giggle after all these years) - so I couldn’t resist.
